‘Combatants for Peace’ takes us at @TheaterZ one step closer to peace

Peace is not an abstract concept, it is a verb. Peace can not be achieved with large conventions, but starts by getting along with people in the neighborhood, at work or in the city. It starts with something small, something beautiful.

It starts with confidence.People can make the difference. Humanity has/is a powerful tool . Mahatma Ghandi said: “Be the change you want to see in the world.” That's a meaningful thought. Today these thoughts are reflected in the performance 'Putting down barriers' by the Combatants for Peace, an interactive stage play in which Israeli and Palestinian ex-combatants are facing each other in a common protest without violence.

By pursuing the dialogue with each other we can keep an open mind. Talking to your neighbors, with your colleagues is a small start to build confidence. Like this performance shows us.

I am sure these kind of initiatives will contribute to greater mutual understanding. I am very proud of the organization Formaat, Workplace for Participatory Drama that brought Combatants for Peace to Rotterdam, this evening to Theater Zuidplein. A true ambassador of peace. I wish you all lots of inspiration during this performance tonight. Let this be the start of an true dialogue … with an open mind. Starting with ourselves. Peace is a verb …
